Barcelona and Spain’s teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Golden Boy Award, a prestigious accolade that celebrates the most exceptional under-21 footballer in Europe.
The award, organized annually by Italian sports outlet Tuttosport, was announced during a live-streamed event on Wednesday. The official trophy presentation is set to take place on December 16.
At just 16 years old, Yamal triumphed over an impressive shortlist of 24 nominees, including notable talents such as Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaïre-Emery, and Real Madrid’s Endrick. Other finalists included Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Rico Lewis (Manchester City), and Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich).
This milestone adds to Yamal’s growing list of achievements, including the 2024 Kopa Trophy, awarded earlier this year for his outstanding performances.
His Golden Boy win places him in an elite group of Barcelona players who have received this honor, alongside legends Lionel Messi (2005), Pedri González (2021), and Gavi (2022).
