The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has urged cooperative societies across Nigeria to embrace digital innovation and acquire essential management skills to stay competitive.
This call was made by the Acting Provost, Walid Adebosin, at the start of a three-day training program designed to enhance the capabilities of cooperative managers and trustees.
The programme, titled “Future-Ready Cooperatives: Digital Innovation, Ethics, and Sustainability,” took place at the college’s training hall in Agege, Lagos.
Adebosin emphasized the need for cooperatives to adapt to the fast-changing business world to ensure their relevance and long-term viability.

He stated that the training was specifically designed to provide participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively manage modern cooperative societies.
According to Adebosin, cooperative societies are crucial for fostering financial inclusion, reducing poverty, creating wealth, and stabilising communities. He highlighted the significant responsibility placed on managers and trustees, who are entrusted with the successful operation of these societies.
He further stressed that a high level of competence is required from the management team to deliver on this responsibility.

The training aims to equip participants with the professional skills and ethical principles needed for success.
It will guide them to see their roles as a mission to serve, improve their efficiency by adopting best practices, and build transparent and accountable organizations that are resilient to mismanagement.
