As the world continue to search for an acceptable vaccine for the treatment of coronavirus. There has been an additional 212,000 confirmed cases reported worldwide.
This takes the total number of recorded cases globally to 11.2 million. From this number, over 6 million people have recovered with additional 5,134 death recorded within the last 24 hours. This takes the global death toll to 528,000.
South Africa has the highest number of cases in Africa with 187,977 and 3,026 deaths. Followed by Nigeria with 28,167 cases and 634 deaths, while Ghana is third with 19,388 cases and 117 deaths.
Nigeria now has over 28,000 Coronavirus cases
According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC); Nigeria recorded additional 603 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With the commercial city of Lagos having the highest number of cases with 135.
Other States number of cases are; Edo – 87 FCT – 73, Rivers – 67, Delta – 62, Ogun – 47, Kaduna – 20, Plateau – 19, Osun – 17, Ondo – 16, Enugu – 15, Oyo – 15, Borno – 13, Niger – 6, Nasarawa – 4, Kebbi – 3, Kano – 2, while Sokoto and Abia recorded one case each.

Out of the total confirmed cases of 28,167, Eleven thousand four hundred and sixty two (11,462) patients have been discharged. Signifying around 40 percent recovery rate.
Lagos health commissioner: 2,430 coronavirus patients refused admission into isolation centres
Professor Akin Abayomi revealed that, 2,430 coronavirus patients in the state have refused to be admitted at isolation centres.
The commissioner stated this via his Twitter account, saying; “they refused admission due to fear of stigmatization or preference for home care treatment”.

The Lagos State Health Commissioner, Professor Abayomi further revealed that, over 42,000 Lagosians have been tested. Amongst which, 10,926 people tested positive for the virus. Meaning that a total of 1,695 patients have been discharged following treatment and recovery.

From the number of confirmed cases, 1,695 patients have been discharged from COVID-19 care centres following full recovery. A total of 6, 259 of the cases monitored in communities by the Covid-19 Lagos response team have either fully recovered or are positively responding to treatment.
He stated that, 365 of the cases are currently under isolation in public and private care centres. Meaning 2,430 active cases in the communities are yet to turn up for admission in care centres either due to fear of stigmatisation or preference for home care treatments”.
According to Professor Abayomi, the number of COVID-19 related deaths in Lagos State has risen to 177, he tweeted.
