Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski etched his name into Champions League history by becoming only the third player to score 100 goals in the competition, following his brace against Brest.
His milestone came during Barcelona’s dominant 3-0 victory over Brest, lifting the Catalans to second in their group standings. The 36-year-old striker later added his 101st goal to seal a comprehensive win that also ended Brest’s unbeaten run.
Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 10th minute after a clumsy foul by Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot in the penalty box. Pedri’s precise cross was controlled brilliantly by the veteran Polish striker before Bizot’s rash challenge handed Barcelona the penalty. Lewandowski made no mistake, clinically converting from the spot to achieve the remarkable century mark.

The former Bayern Munich forward joined an elite group, trailing only Lionel Messi (129 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (140) in the Champions League scoring charts. Under coach Hansi Flick, Lewandowski has rediscovered his best form this season. He has scored 22 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions.
Barcelona’s performance was a strong response to Flick’s demand for fewer mistakes after their recent La Liga setbacks. Missing teenage star Lamine Yamal due to injury, the Catalans relied on Raphinha’s energy down the right to control proceedings. Despite dominating possession, clear chances were limited in the first half as Brest’s defense held firm.
Fermin Lopez tested Bizot with a diving header, but the Dutch goalkeeper redeemed himself with a fine leg save. As the game progressed, Barcelona intensified their efforts, with Dani Olmo stepping up to deliver. After narrowly missing earlier chances, Olmo scored the second goal in the 66th minute, showcasing skillful footwork before beating Bizot at the near post.
Brest, buoyed by a strong start to their campaign, looked to salvage something late in the game. Mathias Pereira Lage thought he had pulled one back, but his effort was ruled offside. The French side’s resilience faltered further when Lewandowski netted his second goal, curling a composed finish past Bizot.
The win solidifies Barcelona’s position as they aim to secure direct qualification to the knockout stages. Despite the loss, Brest remains in contention for a playoff spot, thanks to their impressive early results. With a challenging schedule ahead, including matches against Borussia Dortmund and Benfica, Flick’s Barcelona knows the road to the last 16 is far from over.
