The Labour Party has issued a strong warning to Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti, stating that both may be suspended from the party if they continue with actions the leadership believes are causing internal conflict.
The warning followed a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where party leaders gathered to discuss recent developments.
The meeting, led by the General Secretary, was attended by the National Chairman Julius Abure, national officers, state chairpersons, and other party members.
The party leadership accused Governor Otti of organizing meetings that were not approved by the NEC and attempting to conduct local government elections using another political platform.

They also said a meeting in Umuahia on September 4, 2024, which was backed by both Otti and Obi, led to the creation of an unofficial caretaker committee.
The leadership described this act as going against the party’s principles.
Another concern raised was Otti’s planned meeting with selected party members scheduled for April 9, 2025.
According to the party, this plan is seen as a move to split the Labour Party into opposing sides.
The leadership warned that such actions would not be ignored and may lead to serious consequences under the party’s rules.
Peter Obi, who was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, was also mentioned.
The NEC urged him to avoid decisions or behaviour that could affect the peace within the party, saying no member is above party discipline.
In the same meeting, the party decided to remove Hon. Afam Victor Ogene from his role as leader of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives.
The leadership said the caucus under him had failed to represent the party’s direction.
Hon. Ben Etanabene has now been named to take over, and Ogene has been asked to hand over all documents and records to the new leader.
