AC Milan captain Mike Maignan has been discharged from hospital following a scary head collision with teammate Alex Jimenez on Friday.
Although the incident sparked concern, the French goalkeeper is now stable and recovering well.
The clash occurred in the 51st minute of Milan’s emphatic 4-0 win over Udinese in Serie A. Consequently, Maignan received urgent treatment before being stretchered off while conscious.
Although visibly shaken, Milan players rallied after the incident, with defender Matteo Gabbia confirming Maignan was “doing OK” post-match.

Gabbia added: “We all asked the doctor how he was, and he reassured us… he’s in the hospital for tests.”

While Jimenez played on briefly, he was substituted in the 72nd minute as a precaution. Meanwhile, Milan later stated Maignan was kept under observation before being released on Saturday morning.
Milan manager Sergio Conceicao expressed appreciation for Udinese fans, who applauded Maignan as he left the pitch.
“It impressed me. The player on the ground, the chaos around him… I have to compliment the Udinese fans.”
Moreover, this response marked a contrast to their behaviour in January, when Maignan was racially abused in Udine. During that game, he and his teammates walked off for 10 minutes after reporting the abuse.
Serie A responded by ordering Udinese to play a game behind closed doors as punishment. However, Friday’s applause reflected a rare show of class that did not go unnoticed by the Milan boss.

“The player is one thing, and the man is another… That applause was an incredible gesture.”
He continued: “In 40 years of football I have seen few gestures like that.”
On the pitch, Milan’s goals came from Portuguese winger Rafael Leao and 23-year-old Strahinja Pavlovic in the first half, plus Theo Hernández and Netherlands international Tijjani Reijnders late on.
Up next, the Rossoneri face Atalanta on April 20 before battling Inter Milan in a crucial Coppa Italia semi-final.
