Major talking points from day one of the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League season

The start to a new life in form of the 2024-25 Champions League began with day one on Tuesday as the much talked about new format kicked off.

There were six matches played across various venues as Real Madrid, Liverpool, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Aston Villa recorded thrilling victories.

England striker Harry Kane and Brazilian rising star Endrick made historic headlines on a memorable opening night.

Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Aston Villa dominate opening night

The UEFA Champions League 2024-25 kicked off in interesting fashion, with Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Aston Villa securing vital wins.

Defending champions Real Madrid defeated VfB Stuttgart 3-1, thanks to late goals from Antonio Rudiger and Endrick.

Juventus, in the new league format, beat PSV 3-1, with 19-year-old Kenan Yildiz scoring the season’s first goal.

Weston McKennie and Nicolas Gonzalez added to the tally, while PSV’s Ismael Saibari netted a consolation goal.

Aston Villa made a triumphant return to Europe’s top competition after 41 years, beating Young Boys 3-0.

It was a momentous victory for Villa, marking their resurgence on the continental stage.

Liverpool’s strong start at San Siro

Liverpool began their Champions League campaign in style with a commanding 3-1 win over AC Milan.

Christian Pulisic’s opener for Milan was swiftly canceled out by Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

It was a statement win for Arne Slot’s side as they overcame Milan in front of a packed San Siro. The victory boosts their confidence as they aim to reclaim Europe’s biggest prize.

Harry Kane’s record-breaking night

Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane had a night to remember, scoring four goals in a 9-2 demolition of Dinamo Zagreb.

Kane netted three penalties and broke Wayne Rooney’s record for the most Champions League goals by an English player.

With 33 goals, Kane now leads Rooney by three in the Champions League goal charts.

Bayern’s crushing win sets the tone for their campaign as they chase a seventh European title.

Endrick’s historic moment for Real Madrid

Endrick made history by becoming Real Madrid’s youngest-ever scorer in the Champions League at 18 years and 58 days.
