Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains strong and unshaken in the South West despite ongoing discussions about a possible political coalition.
According to him, the PDP is a well-established institution that cannot be rattled by such developments.
Speaking shortly after a meeting of the South-West PDP Caucus on Friday in Ibadan, the state capital, Makinde emphasized that party leaders in the region have chosen to remain within the PDP to resolve any internal challenges.
He noted that their commitment is to ensure the party grows stronger and continues to serve as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
“The PDP in the South-West is united and we are together. The coalition is not a threat to us,” he told journalists at the South-West PDP Secretariat.

He also questioned the credibility of those forming the new coalition. “Who are these people in this coalition? They were part of other parties before—either the PDP or the APC. What is their track record? Does switching parties automatically mean they have changed or now have something better to offer Nigerians? These are critical questions,” he said.
Using a metaphor to drive his point home, Makinde likened the PDP structure to a house that may have a leaking roof, but should not be abandoned.
“This Soji Adagunodo House belongs to the PDP South-West. If there is a leak, do we run elsewhere, or do we fix it? We stay and fix it, because that’s what responsible leaders do.”
He reaffirmed the party’s internal strength, saying, “People may say what they like, but the PDP, as an institution, has its own mechanisms for resolving issues. When the time comes, I assure you we will handle them appropriately.”
