Makinde reshuffles cabinet, appoints new SSG, key aides

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced a cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening his administration’s “Budget of Economic Expansion” for 2026.

In a statement released on Monday, by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor confirmed the immediate removal of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Olanike Adeyemo.

Taking over the pivotal role of SSG is Musibau Babatunde, a distinguished economist from the University of Ibadan who previously served as the state’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

His appointment is expected to bring a data-driven approach to the coordination of state policies as Oyo pushes for a “production-led” economy in the new year.

The reshuffle also affected several key ministries and advisory roles, signalling a strategic shift in the governor’s focus toward infrastructure and energy security.

Temilolu Seun Ashamu, formerly the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, was redeployed to head the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, filling the vacancy left by the new SSG.

Ademola Aderinto, previously the Senior Special Assistant on Public Works, was elevated to Commissioner-designate.

His name will be forwarded to the Oyo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

Abiodun Adedoja was appointed as the Special Adviser on Energy Security, a new role likely focused on the state’s independent power projects.Kolawole Elijah Akanmu was named as the Senior Special Assistant on Budget and Economic Planning.

The changes come just weeks after Makinde presented the ₦891.9 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the House of Assembly.

The administration is currently focused on high-impact projects, including the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport and the expansion of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ).

Olanrewaju’s statement noted that these appointments and reassignments are part of the Governor’s continued commitment to “ensuring efficient service delivery and effective governance.”
