Gvardiol scored a brace while Player of the Season nominee Phil Foden and Argentine forward Julian Alvarez also scored. With two games of the league season left to play, City are on course to beat Arsenal to the title, barring any last minute drama.

Croatia international Gvardiol continued his recent impressive performances in front of goal with a double. Foden also netted his 25th goal of the campaign in the emphatic victory.

The home side endured a tough time, failing to contain the visitors as they were camped in their own half. They were lucky not to concede more in the first half when Manuel Akanji volleyed his opportunity over the bar.

Later in the second period, playmaker Foden slotted a low 16-yard shot into the far corner to double the lead.

Thereafter, Gvardiol grabbed his fifth goal in his last seven games when he met Bernardo Silvaā€™s cross.

Issa Diop was shown his marching orders in stoppage time as substitute Alvarez dispatched the resulting penalty into the net.

Title race gets hotter

With just two games to go, the result lifts City into first position on the Premier League table. They are also two points clear of rivals and closest challengers Arsenal.

The Gunners face a trip to Manchester United on Sunday in their penultimate league match of the season.

Fans believe City’s game against Tottenham on Tuesday will be the decider as Guardiolaā€™s team play West Ham on final day.

As it stands, Arsenal will hope to beat United on Sunday and also win on the final matchday while hoping for City to somehow slip.
