Manchester United have given Ruben Amorim three Premier League matches to revive results after a poor start has left the club 14th in the table.
The ultimatum follows United’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on 14 September. Amorim, appointed in November 2024 after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, has overseen just one win from four league games this season. United have scored once in their last three matches.
Sources close to the club say Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS-led board expect at least six points from the upcoming fixtures against Chelsea, Brentford, and Sunderland.
The run begins on 20 September at Old Trafford against Chelsea, followed by Brentford away on 27 September, and a home match with Sunderland on 4 October.
Failure to reach the target could see United make a managerial change before the October international break, with alternatives already identified.

Five-man shortlist prepared
Club officials have drawn up a five-man shortlist of replacements. It includes Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace, free agent Gareth Southgate, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, and USA coach Mauricio Pochettino. Each candidate brings Premier League experience or familiarity with English football.
Amorim won the Portuguese league with Sporting CP and was seen as a modernising appointment. However, his 3-4-3 system has struggled to adapt to United’s squad.
Players have voiced public support, but reports suggest dressing-room doubts over tactical rigidity. Fan opinion remains divided between calls for patience and demands for immediate change.
Fans now look forward to the next three matches, with United’s board prepared to act quickly if performances falter.
