Mbappe becomes PSG all-time leading scorer

French forward Kylian Mbappe has emerged as Paris St Germain’s all-time top scorer after scoring in his team’s 4-2 home victory over Nantes in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

The 24-year-old scored two minutes into stoppage time for his 201st goal in all competitions for the French club.

After the final whistle, the Parisien club organised a brief ceremony, with a big portrait of the former Monaco man displayed at the Parc des Princes.

PSG were 2-0 up after 17 minutes following goals by Lionel Messi and a Jaouen Hadjam own goal, only for the away side to equalise before the break through Ludovic Blas and Ignatius Ganago.

The 2019/2020 Champions League finalists secured all three points after Danilo’s goal on the hour mark and Mbappe’s injury time strike.

With the victory, Christophe Galtier’s side now have 63 points from 26 Ligue 1 games this season.

PSG got off to a dream start when Messi opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a left-footed volley form Fabian Ruiz’s cross.

Five minutes later, Alban Lafont directed Nuno Mendes’ attempt into the path of Hadjam who, under pressure from Nordi Mukiele, bundled the ball into his own net to give PSG a 2-0 advantage.

What Mbappe said

“It’s very special to be here. The last time I was here was to announce I was staying (to extend his contract), it’s an honour to be here as the club’s top scorer,” said Mbappe.

“It’s a privilege to be a PSG player, to play in this historic shirt, for the biggest club in France.”

PSG travel to Bayern Munich later this week seeking to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit in the Champions League last 16.
