“There’s no pressure, it’s football,” he added. “I have my quality. I’m here to be Kylian. There’s no pressure. I’m happy, I want to work.”
Following Mbappé’s arrival from Paris Saint-Germain, expectations are sky-high for Real Madrid this season.
Real have begun the season with injuries to Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga. The Los Blancos also currently trail eternal rivals Barcelona by four points after four matches.
The victory against Betis felt like a crucial step in the right direction for the reigning Spanish champions. Mbappé, who scored in Real Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta, had been goalless in La Liga until this match.
In the first half, Mbappé missed two decent chances as Real searched for an opener. He then appeared to squander another opportunity at the start of the second half but was flagged offside.
Finally, Mbappé got his long-awaited first La Liga goal shortly after. Federico Valverde’s brilliant backheel pass found Mbappé in space, and he calmly finished to give Madrid a 1-0 lead. He finally scoring after 24 shots in La Liga.
This was Mbappé’s first goal at the Bernabéu, and he didn’t stop there. Less than 10 minutes later, after a video assistant review confirmed Vinícius Jr. was onside before being fouled by Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva, Mbappé scored his second.
Mbappé stepped up to take the penalty and confidently put it past Silva, securing Madrid’s second league win of the season.
“I was looking forward to scoring in this legendary stadium, the best in the world, but the most important thing was the win,” the Frenchman added.
“Following the game in Las Palmas [which ended 1-1], we knew we had to win and we did just that. It was a tough game, like every game, but we are Real Madrid and we got the win in the end.”
Speaking after the match, Real Madrid’s Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti said: “We’re not anxious or frustrated. We’re very excited and motivated to try to do better. We deserved to win today and we played better and with more cohesion between everyone.”
Barcelona trounce Real Valladolid
Meanwhile, Barcelona continued their perfect start to the season with a massive 7-0 bashing of Real Valladolid.
Raphinha scored his first hat-trick for Barça and created two assists in the game. Robert Lewandowski, Jules Koundé, Dani Olmo, and Ferran Torres also found the net for Hansi Flick’s side. Lamine Yamal created two of the goals.
