Nigeria’s Super Falcons have defeated South Africa 2-1 in one of the WAFCON 2024 semi-final matches.
Michelle Alozie scored the winning goal in the 94th minute. It came after both teams had scored earlier. Her finish secured Nigeria’s place in the final.
Rasheedat Ajibade put Nigeria ahead through a penalty in first-half stoppage time before South Africa responded with an equaliser in the 60th minute.
However, Nigeria remained focused. The game continued with intensity until Alozie’s late goal settled the contest.

Nigeria will now face either Morocco or Ghana in the final, which will be held on July 26 at Rabat Olympic Stadium.

The West Africans have won nine WAFCON titles and with this victory, Nigeria stands closer to a possible tenth.
Nigeria had dominated the group stage. They also defeated Zambia 5-0 in the quarter-finals. This semi-final victory builds on that momentum.
The tournament, which began on July 5 in Morocco, has seen strong competition. Still, Nigeria has stayed consistent.
