Mohbad: The controversial demise of Imole

Nigerian recording artiste, Mohbad whose real name is Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba passed away on Tuesday, September 12.

Since his demise on Tuesday evening, numerous conspiracies have been hovering around his unfortunate demise.

The multi-talented singer-songwriter and rapper passed away at the tender age of 27 due to an alleged ear infection. The concluding part of his life was predominantly marred with controversy; initially, it was feud with his former record label, Marlians and the boss of the faction, Naira Marley.

Several other issues emanated from the aforementioned conundrum, he was accused of being a drug addict and have contemplated suicide on numerous occassions.

Unfortunately, one of the most talented artiste among the burgeoning generation passed away while still at the commencement of his music career.

Prior to his untimely passing, the rapper released numerous smash hits including, ‘KPK (ko Pe Ke)‘ and “Ponmo, feel good“. Despite his impressive skillset, Mohbad’s conflict would predominantly be the highlight of his ephemeral music career.

The Emergence Of Mohbad

Born in Ikorodu, Lagos state in 1996, Mohbad came from a middle-class Muslim family. In several interviews, Mohbad explained why he chose the pseudonym, ‘Imole’, he mentioned that he is the ‘light’ of his family and would serve as the light of his generation.

He quickly rose to fame in 2020 after signing with Naira Marley’s record label, Marlians Record. The budding artiste signed alongside Zinoleesky.

Mohbad went ahead to release his debut EP, Light after signing with the record label in it’s peak. He worked alongside superstars such as Davido, Lil Kesh and label boss, Naira Marley.

Record Label Conflict And Assault Allegations

In February 2022, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested MohBad, Zinoleesky, and four others at their home in Lekki, Lagos for possession of illegal substances that included MDMA and cannabis.

NDLEA confirmed the raid, stating “our men raided an area in Idado estate where Naira Marleyā€™s boys stay.” According to a spokesperson for the NDLEA, cannabis and MDMA was found in their apartment and car. MohBad, Zinoleesky, and four others were later released.

On 5 October 2022, MohBad accused his manager, singer Naira Marley, of assault and stated that his former boss ordered people to assault him after he announced his intention to employ a different manager to handle his music and business affairs.

Videos of Mohbad being assaulted by numerous ‘strong’ men have since surfaced on social media.

Bella Shmurda, a close friend and colleague of the late artiste have spoken about his battle with depression and suicidal thought since his fallout with Marlians record. In a previous interview, Shmurda recounted how Mohbad intended on ‘ending it all’.

Fortunately, Bella and Mohbad’s partner, Omawunmi were on the scene to rescue the embattled singer-songwriter.

There’s More To Imole’s Death…

Numerous questions have raised pertaining to the untimely demise of the 27-year-old musician. Some claimed he died from a ear infection, however, several pundits have preferred to probe further.

There is more to Imole’s death; sooner than later, the truth would be brought to light.
