Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, Flamingos defeated South Africa’s Bantwana 3-1 in the first leg of the final round of the qualification series for this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals.
Shakirat Moshood, who scored four times at the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, scored in the 20th minute to put Nigeria ahead.

Moments later, deadly striker Harmony Chidi stepped up to convert a penalty and double Nigeria’s advantage. Chidi had scored 13 goals in the qualifying series for last year’s World Cup.

However, Harmony Chidi added another for the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup bronze medallists in the 68th minute.
Both the Flamingos and South Africa meet again in the return leg at the Remo Stars’ Stadium in Ikenne on Saturday. The winner will progress to the final round of the series, where all four winners will qualify to join hosts Morocco as Africa’s flag-bearers at this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
This year’s tournament is the first to be hosted by an African nation and will be held between 17th October and 5th November.
