MTN Nigeria has issued a public apology following widespread outrage over the sudden increase in its 15GB data bundle price.
The telecom giant had raised the cost of the weekly plan from N2,000 to N6,000, a staggering 200% jump that caught customers off guard and ignited heated discussions on social media.
In an attempt to pacify subscribers, MTN shared a message on social media on Thursday, acknowledging the frustration caused by the unexpected price adjustment. Using a casual and relatable tone, the company admitted its misstep, stating:
“To our 15G digital bundle lovers. You dey vex. We know. We know how upsetting it must have been to suddenly wake up to a 200% increase on your favourite digital bundle.”
“We could share several reasons, and provide explanations, but omo, all that one na story. We don cast. We get it and admit it. Let’s just say na mistake.”

The company further pleaded with customers to move past their frustration, adding:
“In this love season, don’t stay angry with us. Please forgive and forget. You matter die and we will never stop showing you how much. Let’s continue our relationship. Thank you for your understanding.”
While MTN is currently the only operator to implement the new pricing, Airtel and Globacom are expected to follow suit after receiving approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for a 50% tariff increase in January.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly opposed the implementation of these new tariffs, demanding an immediate reversal of the price hike by telecom companies.
