Have you ever been wondering why Muslim men always bend down to pee or urinate?
In what appears like a random question asked by Tanko Lami on her Facebook timeline recently, some Muslim men shared insightful comments on why they usually bend down to pee or urinate.
Here are some comments by some Muslim men on why they usually or often bend down to pee or urinate.
“Praise be to Allah.
It is not haram for a man to urinate standing up , but it is Sunnah for him to urinate sitting down, because `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: āWhoever tells you that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)Ā used to urinate standing up , do not believe him. He only ever used to urinate sitting down.ā (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, al-Taharah, 12; he said, this is the most sahih report on this topic. It was also classed as sahih by al-Albani in Sahih Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 11). And because this is more concealing, and it reduces the risk of any drops of urine splashing up onto him.
`Umar, Ibn `Umar and Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that it is allowed to urinate standing up on the condition that there is no risk of drops of urine splashing onto oneās body or clothes, and that one does not expose one’s `awrah.
Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to a garden belonging to some people, and urinated standing up . There is no contradiction between this and the hadith of `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), because it is possible that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did that because he was in a place where he was unable to sit down, or he did that to show the people that it is not haram. This does not contradict the basic principle mentioned by `Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) urinated sitting down, because it is Sunnah, it is not something obligatory which it is forbidden to go against.
And Allah knows best.”

So the urine (a filth) have a lower chance of bouncing back on them or their garments.
The other added benefit is the that the chances of revealing the genitals is further reduced.
For the same reason of purity, even a lot of German men sit on the WC to urinate like when they want to do the major.
In Islam, it’s a sin to deliberately allow filth like urine touch you when you can prevent it.
You can’t worship with filth on you.
About Sunnah.
Sunnah are deeds the Prophet (upon whom be peace), did during his life, and those acts/deeds he approved of others as divinely guided to.”
Alfa ShehuĀ Ā
“It’s one of the teachings of our blessed prophet (peace be upon him). It involves cleanliness, bashfulness and safety from punishment.
I’ll explain:
Bending to urinate is more concealing (like you pointed to in the post), and it reduces the risk of having any drop of urine splash on us while urinating.
Also, we believe in the punishment of the grave, and one of the people who will be punished in the grave are those who are very careless while easing themselves, allowing urine to splash on them (this is enshrined in a prophetic tradition as well).
Conclusively, standing while urinating is not forbidden also, provided there will be no risk of urine splashing back at the person. There are toilet equipment that makes it easy to do that nowadays.”
“A drop (or even 1/100 of a drop) of urine should not touch the clothe we will wear to pray.
If we try to ease ourselves while standing, it will splash on the end of our trousers and by that we won’t be able to use it to pray the next prayer again (it’sĀ either we change it or we wash it).
We can only stand to ease ourselves only if we are doing so in a place that it won’t splash back on us.
The position doesn’t really matter. What’s important is that the urine mustn’t splash on us.”
