Ja Morant’s expressive celebrations have come at a steep cost. The Memphis Grizzlies guard has been fined $75,000 by the NBA.

Although players often show emotion during games, Morant’s specific finger gun gesture sparked concern. The league had previously warned him about it.

However, despite the caution, he repeated the action twice in a thrilling 110-108 win over the Miami Heat on April 3.

Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant, who has now been fined $75k by the NBA, celebrated with a hand gun gesture again after being cautioned in a previous match.

The incident took place at the Kaseya Centre, and although the Grizzlies walked away with a victory, Morant didn’t leave unscathed.

Because the league viewed the gesture as potentially inappropriate, Executive VP Joe Dumars announced the fine to emphasise consequences.

While Morant is known for his explosive plays, this fine reminds players that off-ball conduct is just as closely monitored.

It’s not the first time Morant’s actions have caught the league’s eye, but this time the penalty was more expensive.

Although fans love flair, the NBA clearly draws a line when gestures cross into controversial territory – whether intentional or not.

Whether the fine changes Morant’s future celebrations remains to be seen, but for now, his pockets are definitely lighter.
