Nigeria’s internet data usage hit 1.24 million terabytes in November 2025, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed.

The volume rose slightly from 1.235 million terabytes recorded in October.

Broadband penetration reached 50.58 per cent in November, up from 45.61 per cent in January.

The country recorded approximately 109 million broadband subscriptions during the period.

Growth stems from expanded mobile networks, including 3G and 4G services, limited 5G deployments in urban areas, and affordable data plans.

Increased adoption of smartphones and competitive offerings boosted streaming, online learning, and digital services.

Investments in the National Communications Backbone and private-sector projects improved access in underserved regions.

Challenges include frequent fibre-optic vandalism causing 30 to 43 daily cuts, high right-of-way fees, and infrastructure costs.

These constraints hinder progress toward the 70 per cent broadband target in the expiring National Broadband Plan 2020–2025.

Sustained mobile network expansion and infrastructure investment remain key to advancing Nigeria’s digital economy and connectivity.
