The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called for united efforts to tackle drug abuse, cultism, and banditry across Nigeria.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa emphasized the need for communities, security agencies, and stakeholders to work together to curb these threats.
Speaking during an awareness campaign, Marwa highlighted that drug abuse is a major driver of insecurity and social vices.
He warned that without coordinated action, the problem could escalate beyond control, affecting schools, workplaces, and neighbourhood safety.
He stressed the importance of prevention, noting that public sensitization, school programs, and early intervention are key to addressing the root causes.
According to him, eliminating the demand for drugs will weaken criminal networks, cut off financial inflows to gangs, and reduce violent incidents.
Marwa urged parents to be vigilant in monitoring their children’s behaviour, while religious leaders should provide moral guidance to youths, reinforcing the dangers of substance abuse.
Government agencies, he added, must prioritise rehabilitation centres, vocational training, and skills acquisition schemes to reintegrate victims of drug addiction into society.

He explained that enforcement alone is insufficient without the backing of society, stressing that communities must embrace a proactive approach rather than wait for law enforcement to respond after crimes occur.
The NDLEA boss said the agency will continue to expand intelligence gathering, strengthen partnerships with local and international bodies, and intensify surveillance on drug routes.
He assured that drug traffickers and their accomplices will face justice under the law.
Marwa also called on traditional rulers, educators, and civil society organisations to become advocates for a drug-free society, as the fight requires the participation of all citizens.
He concluded by warning that the consequences of inaction could lead to a worsening of insecurity and the destruction of the nation’s youth potential.
