Forget the curves, forget the waist, forget the bust area, and lift your gaze upwards a bit, in the same projection. Yes, that is it, the neckline. Your neckline is an integral determinant of your choice of clothing as a female. Sometimes, you do not necessarily have to expose your neckline before your outfits suit you. Those delicate neckline cuts can be the hub of your outfit.
Your body shape also selects the type of neckline suitable for your look. We all have the perfect body, but some parts are more appealing to others. You do not have to look trendy, you have to wear the right outfit that accentuates the beauty of your body. Know the different necklines and tips to choose your next outfit.
1. Off-the-shoulder
According to its name, this neckline does not cover the shoulders. Off-the-shoulder runs across the chest and sits above the bust. It is also known as the Bardot neck area. The neckline emanated in the Regency & Victorian era in the early to mid-1800s. This choice of neckline was resurrected in the 1960s by Brigitte Bardot.
Off-the-shoulder highlights the shoulder and collarbone. It suits people with slender or narrow shoulders, someone with small to medium busts, the pear, athletic, petite, and hourglass body shape. This neckline brings balance to the broad hips and pear-shaped figures.
2. Sweetheart neck
Sweetheart neck has a low cut at the chest area signifying a heart shape. This cut gives it a high back making it sit lower on the neck. This neckcut is flattering for females with large busts as it accentuates the cleavage. It hugs the chest and draws attention to the collarbones, neck, and shoulders.
This wider neckline works well to balance wider hips. It softens a square jawline- it also suits a heart-shaped face and lengthens a short neck. This neckcut can work in beautifying the appearance of your stomach area in a dress.

3. Cowl neck
See this type of neck cut as a subtle version of turtle neck. According to the Business of Fashion, Cowl Necklines are when a garment has draped, rounded folds around the neckline, which falls below the collarbone.
This neck cut leads attention to the neck and bust area. Cowl neck suits people with long necks and small busts. Mind you, it creates a soft drape and minimizes the bust area. Looking for something to camouflage your stomach area, a cowl neck is the perfect neck cut for your choice of outfit.
4. Surplice neck
The surplice neck crosses from one side of your shoulder to the other side at the front. The ‘faux wrap’ diagonally crossed the neck and bust area. It can be mistaken with the V-neck but it is entirely different. Wrap dresses mostly embody this neckline feature.
Surplice neck dresses often fit with large busts and curvy figures. It also creates a filled waist, the wearer’s waist appears bigger.
5. Square neck
Just as the name implies, this neckline features a squarish neckcut. It creates the appearance of a longer neck because it draws attention to the collarbones. It is most suitable for those with short necks, narrow shoulders, curvy hips, and large busts.
The square neck also provides contrast to curves and looks good on the triangle and pear body shapes.
When you are choosing the design for your next outfit, consider the neckline. It is an overlooked part of feminine clothing but it is very important. It could either rubbish or elevate the outfit of the wearer.
