NELFUND opens student loan application portal for 2025/2026 academic session

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially opened its online portal for students seeking financial aid for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The initiative aims to provide easy access to education loans for students in tertiary institutions across the country.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the application window will be open from Thursday, October 23, 2025, until Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The statement advised new applicants to use either their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a matriculation number during the application process.

NELFUND also appealed to tertiary institutions to exercise patience and flexibility with registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement.

“Institutional Institutions are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee flexibility payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement,” the statement said.

It further directed institutions that have not yet commenced their 2025/2026 academic session to formally inform NELFUND of their approved academic calendar to allow for proper scheduling and coordination.

“NELFUND appeals to all institutions to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are being processed to ensure that no student loses access to education due to financial constraints,” the statement added.

The education loan initiative is part of NELFUND’s ongoing efforts to ensure that every qualified Nigerian student can access higher education without financial barriers.
