Australian Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from Wimbledon 2023 after suffering a wrist injury.
The 28-year-old lost to Novak Djokovic in last year’s Wimbledon men’s singles final. He has only featured in one tournament this year due to a knee injury that needed surgery.
His withdrawal from the third Grand Slam of the year was announced on Sunday evening. He stated he had torn a ligament in his wrist during his comeback.

“I’m really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year,” he posted on Instagram.
“I tried my hardest to be ready after my surgery and to be able to step on the Wimbledon courts again.
“I tried everything to be able to play. And I am disappointed to say that I just didn’t have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon. I’ll be back and, as always, I appreciate the support from all my fans.”
For the Wimbledon tournament, which begins on Monday, Nick Kyrgios was seeded 30th prior to his injury. He was scheduled to challenge Belgian David Goffin in the opening round in SW19.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon has wished Kyrgios “a swift recovery” after his withdrawal.
“Sorry to hear your news Nick Kyrgios. Wishing you a swift recovery and hope to see you back on our courts next year,” Wimbledon tweeted.
Kyrgios facing injury-laden season
Kyrgios has witnessed an injury-hit season as he also pulled out of the Australian Open in January. It was a decision he made just a day to the commencement of the tournament. He stated that his withdrawal from the Australian Open left him “devastated.”
In another unpleasant development, Kyrgios had a surgery on a cyst growing in his meniscus. This made him unable to make a return to competitive action until June.
Unfortunately, Kyrgios suffered a first-round exit at the Stuttgart Open after losing to China’s Wu Yibing.

The Australian struggled with his movement during the straight-set defeat before pulling out of the Halle Open the following week.
Last year, Kyrgios reached his first ever major final. He won the opening set but surrendered by losing in four sets to Serbian Novak Djokovic.
