Niger State Governor Governor Mohammed Bago has presented 25 operational vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force in an effort to tackle security challenges across the state.
The move is aimed at boosting patrol operations, particularly in urban centres facing heightened security concerns.
The donation was announced at the passing out ceremony for the pioneer set of officers from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 23, Minna. The event was held at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi complex in the state capital.
According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the newly acquired vehicles will be handed over to the Niger State Police Command to enhance their mobility and response time during patrol duties.
“The Niger State government has procured 25 additional vehicles to donate to the Nigeria Police Force, Niger State command, to boost patrols, especially in major towns of the State,” Ibrahim quoted the governor as saying.

Governor Bago also disclosed plans to collaborate with the police in constructing residential barracks on the outskirts of Minna. He said this initiative would expand the police presence across all areas of the capital, thereby strengthening security.
Reiterating his government’s resolve to improve public safety, the governor said:
“My administration will continue to support the Nigeria Police and other security agencies as we work ambitiously to address the menace of insecurity in the state.”
The ceremony also witnessed the graduation of 50 personnel from the newly established SPU Base 23. This unit was introduced to address the increasing need for the protection of prominent individuals, including top government officials.
The Special Protection Unit, introduced by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is led in Minna by CSP Hassan Sani. He outlined the objectives of the unit and the nature of its training programme.
“The Special Protection Unit is designed to meet the increasing demand for elite protection services. Over the past two weeks, these 50 participants underwent comprehensive training in VIP protection, convoy movement, firearms handling, martial arts, self-defence, first aid, and fire-fighting skills,” CSP Sani explained.
