Ghana’s U20 coach, Desmond Ofei, admitted Nigeria’s superiority after his side’s narrow 2-1 defeat to the Flying Eagles in the WAFU B U20 final in Togo.

“Nigeria were better than us on the day,” Ofei acknowledged as he recognised the quality of their long-time rivals.

The game saw Nigeria’s Kparobo Arierhi score twice in the first half, an early blow to Ghana’s Black Satellites. Although the Ghanaian side pushed back, they couldn’t quite match Nigeria’s intensity and clinical edge.

Reflecting on the loss, Ofei also noted their recent history as he pointed out a similar defeat to Nigeria two years ago. Despite the rivalry, he remained positive, vowing to regroup for the upcoming U20 AFCON.

Ghana’s Jerry Afriye stood out in the tournament, winning both the MVP and top scorer awards.
