Nigerian artistes who will be looking to grab a Grammy award on Sunday

On Sunday, February 4, the 2024 Grammy award ceremony will be taking place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This year’s Grammy Awards nominations was announced on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.

News Round The Clock (NRTC) will be looking at the Nigerian artistes who will be looking to emerge successful at the coming Grammy award ceremony.

Damini Ogulu, a one-time Grammy winner who is better known as Burna Boy is one of the five Nigerians nominated for the 2024 Grammy award. Others are David Adeleke aka Davido, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe popularly known as Ayra Starr, Ahmed Ololade also known as Asake and Olamide Gbenga Adedeji aka Olamide.

Here is a list of Nigerian artistes who will be looking to grab a Grammy award this coming Sunday:

  1. Burna Boy

In 2021, Burna Boy won his first Grammy award after losing it a year prior.

In 2024, the self-acclaimed African Giant was nominated in three categories which included Best African Music Performance, Best Global Music Performance as well as the Best Global Music Album category for his album “I Told Them.”

2. Davido

One week after shutting the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom for the third time, the self-acclaimed Omo Babaolowo (OBO) will be looking to make history himself by winning his first ever Grammy award.

Davido, has been nominated in three categories for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

The Osun State-born singer was listed in the Best Global Album category for his latest album, “Timeless.”

He was also nominated in the Best African Performance category for his song “Unavailable” and Best Global Music Performance for another of his work “Feel.”

3. Asake and Olamide

The Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) duo of Olamide Gbenga Adedeji (Olamide) and Ahmed Ololade (Asake) equally featured in a Grammy nomination for the first time in their musical career.

They were picked for the Best African Music Performance award for their songs “Amapiano” and “Rush,” respectively.

4. Ayra Starr

Ayra Starr‘s smash hit ‘Rush’ was nominated in the maiden African music category alongside Davido’s ‘Unavailable’, Asake’s ‘Amapiano’ featuring his label boss, Olamide.

Notable Mentions…

Fireboy, a sensational Nigerian singer-songwriter who is signed to Olamide’s Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL), also receives his first Grammy nomination for his contributions to Jon Baptiste’s ‘World Music Radio,’ which was nominated for Album of the Year.

CKay also receives his first nomination for Album of the Year for his appearance on Janelle Monae’s “Age of Pleasure.” Seun Kuti is also nominated for his appearance on Janelle Monae’s “Age of Pleasure.”
