Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Reopens After Three Months Lockdown


Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport has reopened after three-months lockdown. It will be recalled that the country’s airports and airspace were shut in March by the government as part of its efforts to curb the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Saturday reopened with limited service. This was after nearly three months of shutdown. The airport also witnessed strict compliance to other safety measures aimed at curtailing the spread of the virus.

The checks for COVID-19 safety protocols and screening were carried out on passengers at the departure lounge. Likewise, the seats, which were usually crowded, have been rearranged in compliance with the social distancing rule.

Furthermore, inscriptions to further guide passengers, such as “do not use this seat”, “keep your distance”, were placed on seats.

Various precautionary measures such as social distancing, regular washing of hands, and wearing of face masks has helped to curb the virus.

There have been rumors of another lockdown happening soonest. This is because of the increasing rate of affected persons. However, the reopening of Abuja airport may be an avenue to quench the rumors.
