President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring every Nigerian child receives a quality education, empowering women and girls to lead and enact positive change within their communities.
Speaking at the launch of the #WeAreEqual campaign at the State House, President Tinubu commended the commitment of African First Ladies, as members of OAFLAD, to promote gender equality and narrow the gender gap across the continent.
The #WeAreEqual campaign, initiated by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), has been rolled out in 15 African countries, focusing on health, education, economic empowerment, and gender-based violence.
President Tinubu emphasized the transformative power of education, particularly for girls, in shaping African communities for the better. He officially launched the #WeAreEqual Campaign in Nigeria, urging fruitful deliberation and inviting participants to enjoy their stay in the country.
Highlighting the campaign’s theme, “Education as a Powerful Tool for Change,” President Tinubu underscored its critical role in Africa’s development, stressing the need for gender equity and equal opportunities for all.

The President noted the synchrony between the campaign launch and the reintroduction of the Alternative High School for Girls, championed by the First Lady, which offers educational opportunities to girls who have dropped out of school.
President Tinubu commended his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, for her dedication to education and for spearheading the campaign nationwide.
He emphasized the importance of eliminating societal challenges that hinder the future of young girls, drawing from his experience as governor of Lagos State.
Education, President Tinubu asserted, is fundamental to national development, and empowering girls leads to thriving communities, prosperous economies, and successful nations. He urged stakeholders to take decisive actions to eradicate structural inequalities and promote women’s empowerment.
President Tinubu highlighted the significance of the Student’s Loan (Access to Higher Education) Act in ensuring unhindered access to education for all young people in Nigeria.
Additionally, he mentioned the implementation of a N50,000 non-repayable grant program for one million Nigerians, including women and youth, in Nano businesses and skilled trades by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
