Nollywood actor Jide Awobona has advised colleagues and fans to set clear boundaries in their relationship with domestic staff.
In a recent Instagram post, Awobona shared his experiences and frustrations with domestic staff theft, urging fellow employers to handle such situations without emotional involvement.
He recounted an incident where his new domestic worker stole a chewing gum. While he only issued a stern warning, he reflected on past experiences where leniency led to greater losses, including $100 taken from his wallet by a previous staff member.
Initially attributing the losses to his own spending habits, Awobona eventually realized the pattern of theft, noting how he had overlooked smaller amounts in hopes of positively impacting the worker’s life.

He added that domestic staff often do not reciprocate the love and kindness extended to them, urging employers to maintain a professional relationship focused on work and payment.
āLet them do the job they are meant to do. Get paid and move, donāt maltreat them. Though we go as far as giving clothes, food and all but donāt apply emotions, I realised they donāt love you as much as you love them or try to love them,ā the actor wrote on Instagram.
