NPFL fines Nasarawa United, Rangers over security breaches ‎

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Nasarawa United and Rangers International ₦4 million each and ordered them to play behind closed doors, citing serious lapses in match‑day security and supporter misconduct.

According to NPFL rulings issued after fixtures played on April 5, both clubs failed to provide adequate security and allowed unauthorized persons into restricted areas. The league said these breaches undermine the integrity of the competition.

‎Nasarawa United’s offences occurred during their home match against Kun Khalifat FC at the Lafia City Stadium.

NPFL noted the club failed to provide “adequate and effective security,” which allowed unauthorized persons into restricted zones.

Supporters were also reported to have thrown dangerous objects at match officials, while club representatives engaged in “unsporting behaviour capable of bringing the game into disrepute.” Officials were harassed and held back for nearly 20 minutes after the game.

For these breaches, the club was fined ₦4 million and ordered to play its final two home matches of the season behind closed doors.

NPFL Matchday 7 served late goals and away drama as Nasarawa United stayed top, 3SC won again, and El-Kanemi edged Kano Pillars.

‎Meanwhile, Rangers International faced similar punishment after their home fixture against Barau FC at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

The NPFL cited poor crowd control, “failure to control supporters,” harassment of match officials, and “encroachment onto the field of play.” Rangers were fined ₦4 million and will also play their remaining two home games without spectators.

‎Both clubs have 48 hours to appeal the sanctions. Premium Times, which reported the rulings, quoted NPFL as saying the conduct of officials and supporters was unacceptable and capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

‎By handing down these penalties, the NPFL has sent a strong warning that clubs must take responsibility for safety and supporter conduct, or face severe consequences.
