NPFL matchday 7: Enyimba, Rangers win; Remo lose in Benin


Enyimba, Rangers Int’l FC and Bendel Insurance all secured home victories while Remo Stars and Heartland FC lost their matches in the matchday 7 of the 2023/24 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Emmanuel Ekpeyong opened scoring in the 52nd minute before Emmanuel Jesam grabbed a brace to secure the emphatic win.

Doma, led by Akin Onigbinde, have become the second team to record an away win this season, after Remo Stars.

Rangers record victory

In another NPFL matchday 7 encounter, Rangers Int’l FC of Enugu brushed aside Heartland of Owerri 2-0.

Kazeem Ogunleye scored a fantastic freekick before Kenneth Igboke scored his first goal of the season and Rangers’ second. The Oriental Derby was played at the Awka City Stadium.

Defending champions Enyimba returned to winning ways with a slim 1-0 win against Kwara United at the Enyimba International Stadium.

Chijioke Mbaoma netted from the spot in first half injury time as Enyimba grabbed all maximum points.

3SC wallop Tornadoes

At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) whitewashed Niger Tornadoes 4-1 in emphatic fashion.

Ayobami Adekunle opened scoring for Gbenga Ogunbote’s side in the 16th minute before Chidi Ernest equalised ten minutes before halftime.

3SC sprung into the lead once again through Ayodeji Bamidele’s goal shortly after the resume of the second period. Gbolagade Adelowo then extended the lead two minutes after the hour mark before Junior Ayobami completed the rout in the 86th minute.

Sunshine Stars force draw in Port Harcourt; Insurance beat Remo

At the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers united were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Sunshine Stars.

The away side took the lead in the 52nd minute through Osimaga Duke’s brilliant strike from outside the box.

However, Alex Oyowah grabbed the equaliser to help Stanley Eguma’s side secure one point.

Meanwhile, Sarki Ismael’s line strike was all Bendel Insurance needed to beat Remo Stars at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Akwa United were held to a goalless draw by Plateau United in Uyo.

In other NPFL matchday 7 fixtures, Sporting Lagos will welcome Kano Pillars to the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Monday. On the same day, Lobi Stars will travel away to take on Bayelsa United.
