The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has handed Bendel Insurance a ₦5 million fine and ordered the club to play their next three home games behind closed doors. This follows the incident that occurred after their match against Plateau United.
Head coach Kennedy Boboye has been suspended for 17 matches and fined ₦2 million for exhibiting gross misconduct towards a match official. The league said this behaviour goes against the principles of fair play and discipline.
The sanctions stem from events at the conclusion of the fixture. These events saw the Benin‑based club’s coach and team members involved in unsavoury scenes with match officials.
Boboye’s lengthy ban will sideline him for the remainder of the season and into the next campaign. Bendel Insurance must also pay the combined fines within the stipulated period or face further disciplinary action.
