Leading Stories: FG declares Monday, September 16 as public holiday
On Monday, September 16, 2024, the Federal Government has proclaimed it a public holiday in observance of the Islamic holiday of Eid-ul-Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this information and asked Muslims to use the platform to offer prayers for the nation.

Metro: Flood incidence displaces hundreds of thousands in Borno
According to The PUNCH, the catastrophic flood that struck Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Tuesday resulted in at least 414,000 people being displaced and another 30 people dying. Residents of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and the United Nations Human Rights Refugee Council claim that the town experienced its worst flooding in thirty years as a result of the Alau Dam overflowing due to heavy rains, as reported by the National Emergency Management Agency.
The flood also destroyed homes, schools, businesses, and places of worship in addition to taking out 80% of the zoo’s animals at Sanda Kyarimi Park.
Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in the capital of Borno on Tuesday to undertake an on-the-ground assessment of the devastating floods, while President Bola Tinubu expressed grave concerns over the flooding and directed pertinent government agencies to accelerate rescue efforts.Furthermore, Tinubu demanded that everyone living in areas affected by flooding leave right away.
Business: Dangote Refinery set to distribute by Monday
The Dangote Refinery will begin supplying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the NNPC exclusively starting on Sunday, according to a statement made by Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance.At a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Edun made this revelation on behalf of Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The company declared earlier this month that it had finally started refining petroleu and would start distribution, just over a year after the 650,000 barrel Dangote refinery and petrochemical plant were put into service.
