Leading Stories: Edo State governorship election holds today
The Edo State governorship election is today Saturday, September 21, 2024. In the race to become the state’s numbercitizen, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, one and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party are the front-runners.
The Independent National Electoral Commission announced on Tuesday that out of 2,629,025 registered voters in Edo State, 2,249,780 Permanent Voterās Cards have been collected ahead of the governorship election.

Education: Oyo State Government bans teachers’ meeting during school hours
According to the Oyo State Government, teachers in the state are not allowed to hold meetings of any kind inside or outside of schools. Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, the chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, made this statement on Tuesday during a monitoring exercise he oversaw after classes resumed in Ibadan.
He claims that the goal is to make sure that the state’s public schools all strictly follow the uniform school schedule.

Business: Nigeriaās public debt is set to rise as the World Bank readies a $1.7 billion loan
According to the World Bankās project list, the loan will be approved on September 26, 2024. The loan is targeted at improving Nigeriaās healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure. The loan is to drive the nation’s economic stability and resource mobilisation capacity.
Under the scheme, the World Bank will approve $500 million for āNigeria: Primary Healthcare Provision Strengthening Programme.ā Nigeria will receive an additional $500 million for a $700 million project titled “Nigeria Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) – Governance.”
With this loan, the nationās total public debt could rise further by N2.7 trillion. Nigeria’s fiscal management will be highlighted by this.The third project, tagged, ā Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria,ā will also attract another $500 million. It has a project cost of $10.75 billion.

These “freak offs” were “elaborate and produced sex performances” and were highly organised parties, prosecutors said. Mr Combs has denied all the charges, entering a not guilty plea on Tuesday, 17 September.
