Politics: INEC announces nationwide voter revalidation ahead of 2027 elections
NRTC WEEKLY learnt that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced a forthcoming nationwide Voter Revalidation Exercise aimed at cleaning up the national register ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Commission’s Chairman, Joash Amupitan, revealed this during a high-level consultative meeting with media executives yesterday.
The exercise is designed to eliminate persistent “ghost” entries, including those of deceased persons, underage voters, and duplicate registrations that have previously plagued the system.
While eyes are on 2027, the Commission is simultaneously locked in on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, set for February 21, 2026.
Leading Stories: Nigerian singer Ifunanya Nwangene dies after snake bite at home
NRTC WEEKLY gathered that Nigerian singer and vocalist, Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known online as Nanyah_music, died after she was bitten by a snake at her home in Abuja.
Nwangene was a fast-rising artist who gained recognition through her strong vocals and growing presence on social media platforms like TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), where fans enjoyed her musical performances and content. Many described her as a promising vocalist who was beginning to make her mark in the Nigerian music scene.
According to reports, the incident occurred while she was using the toilet. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment but sadly did not survive.
Business: Oando posts N3.21trn revenue, 32% production growth in strategic FY2025
NRTC WEEKLY learnt that Oando PLC reported a 32% surge in its upstream production alongside a revenue of N3.21 trillion for the 2025 financial year, marking a period of strategic portfolio realignment.
The unaudited results reveal a deliberate shift by the indigenous energy giant, which boosted profitability by pivoting its trading business towards higher-margin activities while aggressively developing its upstream assets.
Production averaged 32,482 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). This growth was driven by a 36% rise in crude oil output, a 24% increase in gas production, and a 715% surge in natural gas liquids volumes. The company credited this performance to the full-year consolidation of its NAOC Joint Venture assets and improved operational uptime.
Sports: Nigeria’s Falconets face Senegal in Abeokuta after late stadium switch

Nigeria Football Federation Director of Competitions Ruth David confirmed the decision. February’s first-leg match will now occur at Abeokuta’s MKO Abiola Sports Complex.
It relocates from Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
David cited the Ibadan pitch’s deteriorating condition as the cause. That same venue hosted Nigeria’s second-round victory over Rwanda. The Falconets must now relocate their training base to Abeokuta.
