Politics: INEC extends PVC collection in Anambra ahead of November 8 governorship election

NRTC Weekly learnt that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced an extension of the ongoing collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Anambra State.

The extension came after several appeals from residents and stakeholders who requested more time for eligible voters to collect their cards ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

According to a statement issued on Monday night by INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, the exercise—initially set to end on Sunday, October 26—will now continue from Wednesday, October 29, to Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Leading Stories: WAEC debunks reports of subject restriction for 2026 WASSCE candidates

NRTC Weekly reported that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) debunked circulating reports claiming that it had directed secondary schools to restrict students to certain subjects for the upcoming 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adeshina, on behalf of the Head of National Office, the Council described the claims as “unfounded assumptions” and urged schools, parents, and the general public to disregard them.

Business: Tinubu approves 15% import duty on petrol, diesel

NRTC Weekly gathered that President Bola Tinubu approved the introduction of a 15 per cent ad-valorem import duty on petrol and diesel brought into the country.

The new policy is designed to protect Nigeria’s emerging local refineries and stabilise the downstream petroleum market, though it is expected to result in a slight increase in pump prices.

In a letter dated October 21, 2025, and made public on October 30, 2025, Tinubu instructed the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to begin immediate implementation of the tariff as part of a “market-responsive import tariff framework.”

Sports: Super Falcons secure 2026 WAFCON spot with 3-1 aggregate win over Benin

NRTC Weekly learnt that Nigeria’s Super Falcons beat Benin and are now heading back to the 2026 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), after sealing qualification in front of their fans.

Although Benin pushed hard late in the second leg match played on Tuesday, the Nigerian side kept their composure to finish the job in Abeokuta. And with a 3–1 aggregate scoreline, the Falcons deservedly booked their ticket to Morocco 2026.

Ashleigh Plumptre put the hosts ahead after only 12 minutes, finishing calmly following a bright Nigerian start. Her early strike lifted the atmosphere at the MKO Abiola Stadium, as the Super Falcons controlled possession confidently.

And despite Benin defending in numbers, Nigeria continued to create the clearer openings throughout the first half.

Entertainment: Having one wife is like standing on one leg –Ned Nwoko defends polygamy amid marital crisis with Regina Daniels

NRTC Weekly gathered that Nigerian senator and businessman, Ned Nwoko, sparked fresh debate online after likening monogamy to “standing on one leg.”

The politician, who is currently reported to be in a marital crisis with his fourth wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, made the remark during an interview on Channels Television with Seun Okinbaloye on Sunday night.

While defending his choice to have multiple wives, Nwoko explained that his belief in polygamy stems from the “difficulty of standing on a single leg.”
