Business: Commodities increase

This month, Nigerians experienced a harsh reality as the price of garri, a staple food in many households, skyrocketed. NRTC WEEKLY reported that the increase ignited a mixture of frustration, humor, and calls for solutions.

In some markets, a 50kg bag of white garri, previously priced at around N8,000, soared to as high as N14,000, marking a nearly 80% increase. This surge imposed a significant strain on household budgets, especially for low-income families heavily reliant on garri for sustenance.

NRTC WEEKLY confirmed that the reasons behind the hike were complex, involving factors such as the reduction of cassava harvest. Droughts and flooding in some regions led to a decline in cassava production, resulting in a smaller supply.

The response to the garri price crisis from the government and other stakeholders remains uncertain. However, one thing is certain: Nigerians found ways to cope and adapt, expressing their frustration through memes and calls for action.

Supreme Court judgments

Nigerians enthusiastically praised the recent Supreme Court rulings, lauding the court for delivering sound judgments.

While ongoing discussions debated the court’s potential liberation from political godfatherism, a prevailing sentiment emerged, suggesting that the affirmations of Inuwa Yahaya, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Kebbi State Nasir Idris, and others had bolstered trust in the judiciary.

NRTC WEEKLY confirmed that certain critics had condemned specific courts in Nigeria for displaying favoritism. They contended that imprisoning someone for stealing an ATM card seemed disproportionate, particularly when individuals with significant wealth were granted bail.

Despite the Supreme Court receiving acclaim for its judgments, dissenting voices surfaced within NRTC WEEKLY‘s findings, with some criticizing courts for alleged corruption.

Sport: Ronaldo sign with awards

Cristiano Ronaldo had a momentous Friday night, winning not just one but three awards at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.

He also secured the Maradona Award for Top Scorer, a prestigious recognition for the player with the most goals in a calendar year, as confirmed by NRTC WEEKLY.

Ronaldo’s global popularity was evident as he won the Fans’ Favourite Player of the Year through a popular vote, surpassing competitors like Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah. This special honor from the fans has once again raised the bar for determining the true GOAT.
