Politics: Tinubu, Shettima’s absence from Nigeria

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that both politicians and citizens are expressing concerns over the simultaneous absence of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima from the country.

This follows a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, reassuring Nigerians that despite being abroad, both leaders remain actively engaged with national affairs.

Onanuga also emphasised that their absence would not create a leadership vacuum.President Tinubu is currently on a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom, following a recent trip to France, while Vice President Shettima is away on a two-day official visit to Sweden.

Reacting to the situation, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside other politicians, argued that given the current challenges facing the nation, it is inappropriate for both the President and Vice President to be out of the country at the same time.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have voiced scepticism, suggesting that their physical presence in the country would not address pressing issues such as the rising cost of living, fuel prices, and other economic hardships. They believe that simply being present will not ease the burdens faced by everyday citizens.

Entertainment: Don Jazzy N100m NGO donation

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the internet buzzed this week after social media influencer Martins ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse revealed that renowned music producer Don Jazzy donated M100 million to his newly launched non-governmental organization (NGO).

Don Jazzy’s contribution ignited a flurry of reactions on social media. While many Nigerians lauded his generosity and commended VeryDarkMan’s initiative, others voiced scepticism, questioning the transparency of the project.

Some also highlighted VeryDarkMan’s prior criticisms of Don Jazzy and speculated on his sudden shift in tone following the donation.Several people hailed Don Jazzy as a true philanthropist, praising his immense contribution and labelling him a blessing to Nigeria.

Meanwhile, some called for him to extend similar generosity to other causes.Addressing the donation on his Instagram page, the Mavin Records boss clarified that his decision to support VeryDarkMan’s NGO wasn’t based on any personal connection.

He explained that his motivation was to contribute towards providing quality education for students in public schools—an initiative that aligns with the mission of the NGO, which had already raised over N200 million in donations last week.

Leading stories: T-Pain
