Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), expressed appreciation for the efforts of corps members in the success of previous orientation courses, notably the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Streams I and II.
Addressing the 2024 Batch ‘A’ pre-orientation course workshop in Abuja, he urged prospective corps members to intensify their efforts for greater achievements.
The DG highlighted the workshop’s purpose as a review of past orientation courses to strategize for optimal performance, emphasizing the importance of heightened vigilance for the upcoming Orientation Course in line with the renewed focus on the security and welfare of corps members.
Brigadier General Ahmed affirmed the management’s commitment to enhancing the impact of the orientation course, stressing its role in preparing corps members for nation-building.

The workshop’s theme, “Orientation Course: Panacea for Engendering Youth Attitudinal Change and National Development,” reflects this objective, and he encouraged active contributions towards positive outcomes.
He announced that the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Orientation Course would be conducted in two streams, with details to be disclosed later.
Addressing concerns about unauthorized journeys by corps members, he stressed the ongoing efforts to address this issue due to its perilous consequences, including accidents and abductions.
“We are not relenting in our efforts to check this problem that has become a nightmare for the Scheme in view of the perilous consequences such as road accident and abduction of Prospective Corps Members on their way to States of deployment,” the DG said.
State Coordinators were instructed to continue the campaign against night journeys before the commencement of the Orientation Course.
“I enjoin everyone to ensure that measures put in place to curtail this negative trend are followed to the letter. In line with a recent decision of the Management, State Coordinators are expected to continue to take the campaign against night journey to motor parks, transport companies and other relevant stakeholders before the commencement of the Orientation Course.”
