The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has mandated that only graduates with compliance certificates from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) will be mobilized for national service, in line with Federal Government directives to curb certificate fraud.
NYSC Director‑General, Olakunle Nafiu, made the announcement in his keynote address at the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre‑Mobilization Workshop in Abuja.
“When we work in synergy, we ease the path for our Prospective Corps Members, ensuring that their transition from student to national service is smooth, transparent, and credible,” he said.
Nafiu urged Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs) to sensitize students and ensure strict compliance with the initiative.

He emphasized that mobilization was not the sole responsibility of the NYSC, calling on regulatory bodies, security agencies, and relevant ministries to provide support through policy guidance, capacity building, and enforcement.
Nafiu added that stakeholders must confront challenges boldly and adopt creative solutions to strengthen accountability and transparency in the mobilization process.
In addition, NYSC Director of Corps Mobilization, Mrs. Rachel Ideawor, described the workshop as a vital platform for collaboration between the Scheme, CPIs, and stakeholders. She noted progress in improving mobilization but stressed the need to further optimize service delivery.

“I urge our Student Affairs Officers to approach their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, ensuring that the information provided accurately reflects the true profiles of Prospective Corps Members,” she said.
Stakeholders present included JAMB, NUC, NBTE, the Federal Ministry of Education, NERD, SIDMACH Technologies, as well as 266 Student Affairs Officers representing institutions across the country.
The commission stressed the enforcement of the NERD certificate requirement will strengthen accountability and transparency in mobilization, ensuring that only genuine graduates participate in national service.
