Former United States President Barack Obama has included Nigerian stars Burna Boy and Olamide on his 2025 end-of-year music playlist.
Obama released the playlist on X (formerly Twitter), continuing his long-standing tradition of sharing his favourite books, films and songs at the close of each year.
According to the former president, the annual list is an extension of a habit he started while in the White House, aimed at helping people discover new music and encouraging them to share recommendations with him.
On the 2025 playlist, Burna Boy appears with Tatata, his collaboration with American rapper Travis Scott. The feature further underlines Burna Boy’s status as one of Africa’s most internationally recognised music stars.
Olamide also earned a spot on the list with 99, a track that features British singer Daecolm alongside Nigerian artistes Seyi Vibez, Asake and Young Jonn.

Although Burna Boy and Olamide are the primary Nigerian acts credited, the inclusion of Seyi Vibez, Asake and Young Jonn as featured artistes boosts Nigeria’s overall presence on the playlist.

Obama’s end-of-year playlists have evolved into a notable cultural event, often generating online conversations and shining a spotlight on both established and emerging artistes from different parts of the world.
Over the years, several Nigerian musicians have appeared on his lists, reflecting the growing global influence of Afrobeats.
The former president explained that the 2025 playlist captures the music he enjoyed throughout the year. His selections are typically wide-ranging, spanning pop, soul, hip-hop, rock, jazz and various global sounds.
In addition to Nigerian entries, the 2025 playlist features songs by a diverse group of international artistes, including Olivia Dean, Kendrick Lamar and SZA, BLACKPINK, Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Gunna, Chappell Roan, Drake and Obongjayar, among others.
