Obi: Education, healthcare sectors key to national rebirth

The 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his belief that education and healthcare remain the most effective pathways to national transformation.

He made this known during a visit to two key development projects in Enugu State, where he donated a total of ₦40 million to support ongoing efforts in both sectors.

Obi’s first stop was the Godfrey Okoye University School of Nursing, where he met with students, staff, and management.

He praised the institution for its dedication to training competent healthcare professionals and commended its proprietor, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu, His Lordship Callistus Onaga, and the Vice Chancellor for their continued contributions to national development through education and healthcare.

In support of the university’s mission, Obi announced a ₦20 million donation, stating that such investments were crucial to revitalising Nigeria’s health sector.

The former Anambra governor later proceeded to Amafor Ihu-Okpara community in Nkanu East Local Government Area, where he inspected the construction of a community health centre initiated by the Anglican Bishop of Enugu, Professor Sam Ike.

The project is designed to expand access to quality healthcare services in rural areas.

Describing the initiative as “a shining example of faith-based contribution to national development,” Obi pledged another ₦20 million to aid its completion.

“These contributions reflect my unwavering belief that investing in education and healthcare is the most strategic choice any society can make,” Obi said.

“By empowering our youth through knowledge and safeguarding the health of our people, we build the foundation for a stronger, more equitable, and prosperous Nigeria.”

He urged citizens and leaders alike to play their part in investing in the country’s future.
