Prominent Nigerian leaders have extended their congratulations to John Dramani Mahama following his victory in Ghana’s December 7 presidential election.
Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, commended Mahama’s election as a testament to Ghana’s democratic values and political maturity.
Obi lauded the Ghanaian people for their commitment to peaceful transitions, emphasising that Mahama’s presidency offers a beacon of hope for progress, unity, and poverty alleviation across Africa.
“Your victory stands as an example of the democratic values and political maturity our beloved continent so needs,” Obi stated.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu also joined in celebrating Mahama’s victory, making a congratulatory phone call to the president-elect.

Tinubu expressed optimism about Mahama’s leadership, noting that his return to power would foster stability within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the peaceful conduct of the elections and applauded Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), for conceding defeat, reinforcing Ghana’s democratic ethos.
“President-elect Mahama’s return to Jubilee House reflects the trust of the Ghanaian people in his vision and stewardship,” Tinubu said.
He also highlighted Mahama’s distinguished career, which includes serving as Vice President from 2009 to 2012 and President from 2012 to 2017, describing his leadership as a source of inspiration.
Both leaders expressed hope for strengthened bilateral relations between Nigeria and Ghana, rooted in shared cultural ties, Pan-African ideals, and economic cooperation.
President Tinubu further acknowledged outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo for his contributions to Ghana’s progress and regional stability.
