Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has visited human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi following his release from prison in Ekiti State.
In a tweet today, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate praised Farotimi for his unwavering courage in the face of adversity.
Obi, 63, commended the lawyer for his bold advocacy for good governance in Nigeria and expressed his wishes for a fruitful and productive year as Farotimi continues his efforts toward the nation’s development.
Obi wrote: “Yesterday, following my visit and meeting with President Obasanjo, I made time to visit my dear younger brother, Dele Farotimi. Since his return from the correctional center in Ekiti, I have not had the opportunity to meet with him. I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his unwavering dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria.

“Dele Farotimi exemplifies courage in the face of adversity, consistently taking bold stands for good governance in our nation. I wish him a fruitful and productive year as we continue to work together towards the development of our country.”
Farotimi was released after his arrest on December 3 by officers of the Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly defaming renowned legal icon Aare Afe Babalola.
The arrest stemmed from claims of defamation and cyberbullying made in Farotimi’s 116-page book, “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System”, which contained allegations against Babalola.
Obi visited Babalola while Farotimi was in custody, to appeal to him. Urging consideration of Farotimi’s ‘situation’.
