Okowa seeks greater synergy in redressing societal challenges

Ifeanyi Okowa

Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa called for a united effort to address the nation’s challenges on Tuesday, April 5.

Okowa made the phone call while visiting former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun.

According to Mr Kehinde Akinyemi, Special Assistant to Obasanjo on Media, Okowa was in Abeokuta on a private visit to discuss Nigeria’s situation and some Delta-related issues with Obasanjo.

According to the statement, Okowa urged the federal government to draw on the wealth of experience of past and present Nigerian leaders to solve the country’s problems.

“The insecurity and the economic challenges have the capacity to destroy our nation and that is not in our best interest as a country.

“It is time that Nigeria’s past and present leaders, with other critical stakeholders, came together to discuss our challenges and proffer solutions.

“We need the collective efforts of all at this period. As it stands today, the APC-led government cannot deal with the challenges alone.

“We need far-reaching consultations, not only with those in government, but also with those outside government, particularly those who had been part of running this country,” Okowa said.

Okowa said it was more important to seek solutions to the country’s challenges than nursing presidential ambition.

“As at today, I have not made up my mind whether to contest for the presidential election. The important thing is not about myself.

“Finding solutions to the nation’s problems is more important to me than the Presidential race,” the governor stated.

Meanwhile, former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida also known as IBB, has expressed his willingness to support the adoption of consensus presidential candidates in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

IBB stated this during a visit by the three presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Minna, on Thursday, March 31.
