Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on their recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo described the political realignment as a significant development for the South-South region.
He acknowledged the dynamic nature of politics and praised the leaders for taking decisions they believe would best serve their states and constituents.
Wishing Oborevwori and the former Delta PDP members success in their future endeavours, Okpebholo expressed hope for stronger collaboration between Edo and Delta States, with the aim of advancing the broader interests of the South-South.
The governor noted that with these major defections, the APC had solidified its presence in the South-South, a shift he said would attract greater federal attention and resources to the region.
Okpebholo further expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 was now secured, particularly with the APC holding sway in three out of the six South-South states.

He stated that minority states would no longer be marginalised, adding that with the party’s growing dominance, the region was now well-positioned to negotiate for favourable outcomes.
He also voiced optimism that Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States might soon follow suit, further strengthening the APC’s foothold in the South-South.
Reiterating his belief in the APC’s bright prospects, Okpebholo declared that the party, now the majority in the South-South, would deliver the region for President Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.
