Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed all 18 local government chairmen in the state to submit their financial statements within 48 hours.
The mandate was announced during a meeting at the Government House, Benin City, where the governor was represented by his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa.
The directive requires the chairmen to submit their statements of account, covering the period from September 4, 2023, to date, to the Assets Verification Committee via the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
He said Governor Okpebholo emphasised that the move aligns with his administrationās commitment to transparency and accountability.
āThe Governor is determined to work closely with the chairmen for the progress of Edo State. Transparency is at the core of this administration, and this directive will enable the Assets Verification Committee to function effectively,ā said Deputy Governor Idahosa.

Idahosa added that the governor also assured the chairmen that the administration is committed to fostering a collaborative relationship.
Speaking on behalf of the local government chairmen, Newman Ugiagbe, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Edo State Chapter, and Orhionmwon Local Government Chairman, pledged the groupās loyalty to the Governor.
āWe are here to congratulate the Governor and Deputy Governor on their mandate and to affirm our readiness to support their policies. We will ensure that the administrationās vision reaches the grassroots, delivering the dividends of democracy to our people,ā Ugiagbe stated.
The meeting underscored the administrationās focus on strengthening governance at all levels to enhance the delivery of public services across Edo State.
