Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the state fully utilises its recruitment quota in the Nigerian Army.
This, he said was part of broader efforts to enhance national security and create job opportunities for young people.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Nigerian Army, the governor—represented by his Chief of Staff, Gani Audu—said the state would intensify awareness campaigns across its 18 local government areas to encourage more youths to enlist.
“We will work closely with the Brigade Commander to form a mobilisation team that will take this sensitisation to every part of the state,” Okpebholo stated.
“Edo must not continue to lag behind. Our youths must be encouraged to see the military as a noble and impactful career path.”
The Army delegation, led by Brigadier General Wiito Nzidee, Director of Supply and Transport Services at Army Headquarters, was on a sensitisation tour on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oloyede.

The campaign targets states in the Niger Delta region, with the aim of improving enlistment into the Army’s 89 Regular Recruit Intake.
Brig. Gen. Nzidee explained that the drive became necessary as Edo State continues to fall short in filling its recruitment quota.
According to him, while states like Kaduna (2,393), Adamawa (1,701), and Plateau (1,400) have recorded significant numbers, Edo has only managed to register 194 applicants out of its 2,000 allocated slots.
Commander of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ebenezer Oduyebo, who was also part of the delegation, emphasised that the recruitment exercise not only contributes to national security but also serves as a meaningful employment opportunity for young people in the state.
The recruitment portal for the 89 Regular Recruit Intake remains open, with the Army urging eligible candidates to apply promptly.
Governor Okpebholo reiterated the state’s readiness to support the initiative, noting that improved participation would reflect positively on Edo’s contribution to national defence and development.
