Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, has refuted reports suggesting that the General Hospital in Igbara-Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area, is neglected, insisting that the facility is fully operational and adequately staffed.

Earlier, there had been concerns that the state-owned hospital was battling shortages of equipment and personnel.

However, Ajaka, in a statement released on Tuesday, stressed that the hospital remains active, with a workforce of 138 professionals across essential units.

He explained that the facility currently has seven doctors, three optometrists, two dental officers (with one seconded to the Dental Headquarters), 27 nurses including a Head Nurse Supervisor, seven pharmacy technicians, seven laboratory scientists, and eight laboratory technicians, among others.

“The facility is also powered by solar energy supported by an inverter system, ensuring a sustainable electricity supply to reduce downtime in service delivery,” he added.

Ajaka further noted that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration had continued to invest in personnel, infrastructure, and equipment across secondary health facilities, including the Igbara-Oke hospital.

Reassuring residents of Ifedore and nearby communities, the commissioner maintained that patients, including pregnant women, have access to skilled health workers at the hospital.

“Igbara-Oke General Hospital is not a symbol of neglect, but a working healthcare facility staffed with competent personnel who are daily serving the needs of our citizens. We will continue to improve infrastructure and service delivery in line with our vision for a healthier Ondo State,” he said.
